Loving the delicious outdoor markets!

Hola from Barcelona!  It’s been a long time since my last post as I’ve recently moved to Spain and haven’t had much time to blog.

Moving to a new country, city, or even apartment is usually extremely stressful because your entire routine is thrown upside down.  Often, your healthy eating habits that you’ve perfected in your previous living situation are the first things to be thrown out the window, especially during the first few weeks when you’re still unsure of the best places to eat out at or go grocery shopping.

Like every other time I’ve moved to a new country, my first month in Spain was spent trying out the local cuisine, experimenting with new ingredients, and trying to find the best shop to buy produce in.  There are a few things that are just simply unavailable here that I’m doing my best to live without and I’ve had to make a lot of changes to my normal breakfast, lunch, and dinner routine that I was (spoiled) with in the states.  For example, a few of my staples: peanut butter, cottage cheese, and hummus are nowhere to be found.  Luckily, I’m capable of making my own hummus but I still really miss the other two!

Anyways, having gone through this transition of changing my diet completely, the best advice I can give you is to stay away from convenience foods on your arrival into your new destination.  The easiest thing for me to do would have been to eat at fast food restaurants and shop at the closest convenient store before being familiar enough with my surroundings to know where to go.  This obviously would have resulted in my feeling awful and not being able to wear the same jeans I flew in with in a matter of weeks.  I’ll stick to what I say over and over again in Cute and Skinny: there is simply never a good enough reason to eat Fat Factory food, no matter where you are.  Instead, take the time to really get to know your surroundings in terms of grocery stores as soon as you have a roof over your head.  Your nutrition should never be compromised for convenience!

Just like Korea, Spain is filled with teeny-tiny inhabitants who eat delicous food and manage to stay skinny.  I’ll be keeping you up to date with how this is possible (while still drinking wine regularly) so you can too!

Stay Skinny This Fall

Bikini season is coming to an end and with it the extra motivation to stay cute and skinny in order to wear all your skin bearing summer outfits.  When the colder months begin to roll in, the pounds seem to follow closely after and before you know it, you’re hiding your winter muffin-top with hooded sweatshirts and roomy jeans.  You swap your dessert of watermelon and cantaloupe with warm, baked goodies and replace your salad dinner with roasts, potatoes, gravy, and heavy pastas. Walk It Out

We all started walking since we were what, six, eight months old?  Remember when we were growing up we walked everywhere: to school, the store, the playground, to our friend’s house…

Find a photo of yourself in adolescence.  Take a good look at it and what do you see?  I bet it’s a skinny kid with a big smile and not a care in the world. Especially any cares about weight gain.  Am I right?  Of course I am, because all of us have those photos.  And why didn’t we worry about our weight?  Because we practiced the best and simplest weight control program on earth.  We walked.
